Not quite sure what to wear to the airport for your next trip? For me, comfort is key especially if I’m traveling with my kids.

The frequent bathroom breaks, the long terminal walks/runs, standing in long TSA lines, waiting on your bags, the last thing you want is to be uncomfortable.

Airport outfits can not only be easy to move in and comfortable, but they can also be cute. However, planning your next airport outfit may take a little planning.

Here are a few things to consider when deciding on your next comfy airport outfit idea:

  • How long is the flight? Longer flights may require more comfortable clothing compared to shorter ones.
  • What is the weather like at your destination? Dress accordingly to ensure comfort upon arrival.
  • Will you be transitioning between different climates? If so, consider layering to better deal with changing temperatures.
  • How much walking will be involved during your travels, including navigating through airports? Choose shoes that are comfortable for walking and easy to slip on and off for security checks.
  • Do you have any health considerations, such as circulation issues or temperature sensitivity? Choose clothing that accommodates these needs.
  • Will you be carrying any bulky items in your carry-on luggage? Avoid wearing clothing with too many pockets or accessories that might set off security alarms.
  • Are you planning to sleep during the flight? Opt for clothing that allows for easy movement and consider bringing an eye mask and neck pillow.
  • Do you want to maintain a certain level of style or professionalism upon arrival? Balance comfort with style by choosing versatile pieces that can transition well.
  • Are you prone to feeling cold or hot on flights? Dress in layers so you can adjust your clothing accordingly.
  • Do you have any dietary restrictions or preferences that might affect your meal choices on the plane? Consider clothing with stretch or loose fits to accommodate potential bloating or discomfort.

The best outfit to wear when traveling by plane is one that will require the least amount of adjusting or guarding.

I would not recommend wearing a short skirt and heels.  The last thing you want to do is fumble with your luggage while trying to keep yourself modest.

Also, take extra consideration when deciding on footwear and accessories.  Remember that security will require you to take off your shoes and belts.  Wear items you can easily remove and put back on without much effort.

Keep the complicated shoes at home and opt for sneakers, mules, or sandals — something that is easy to remove and put back on.

As for accessories, belt bags or crossbody bags are ideal when navigating an airport. Look for a bag that can keep your hands free and is also secured around your body for security.

For a comfortable bottom option, consider leggings, joggers or jeans.
