Probably the most important glow-up tip is making sure you are getting enough sleep. For women, you want to aim for 7-8 hours of good-quality sleep.

Well, according to the Sleep Foundation, women and people assigned female at birth can experience hormonal changes each month and throughout their lifetimes, which impact their circadian rhythms, and create a greater need for sleep.

Menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause may all contribute to poor sleep quality. 

HOW CAN I GET BETTER SLEEP?

Some tips for creating a better sleep environment that will help you stay asleep longer:

  • create a quiet and calm sleep environment
  • find your perfect sleeping temperature
  • exercise regularly
  • avoid consuming sleep disruptors (caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine)

Better sleep will help with fatigue, memory, concentration, heart health, and mood just to name a few.

Eating a balanced diet is crucial to feeling and looking your best. A healthy diet should consist of vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

A healthy diet is not only going to help with everyday functions but may also help you with your overall appearance. By taking the time to plan your meals and making sure you are incorporating items from each food group, you are setting yourself up for success.

Without a proper meal plan, you are more likely to just grab the most convenient foods (usually fast food or processed foods) which are unhealthy and deter from your health goals.

Mindful eating requires some effort but it is well worth it for a healthier you. 

Exercise Regularly

Physical exercise is not just for those wanting to lose weight, rather, it is a requirement for overall health.

Whether you are after certain physical changes or you want better physical health, regular exercise should be a must in everyday life. That doesn’t mean you need to spend hours at the gym.

Aim for 30 minutes of moderate activity.

Try activities that require some effort.

Cardiovascular activities like walking, jogging, biking, and running are all great for heart health.

You’ll also want to aim for a workout routine that involves weights.

Strength training helps build muscle which is great for overall tone, but also helps burn fat and helps with bone density. Trust me, you are going to want to have strong bones as you age.

This goes back to drinking more water, but there are multiple ways to stay hydrated that don’t require a cup. Get in the habit of consuming foods with high water content. A few high-water-content foods include:

  • Melons such as watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe
  • Strawberries

  • Peaches
  • Oranges
  • Bell peppers
  • Broccoli
  • Celery

To begin, you want to make sure you sit up straight with your shoulders back. This will help you avoid back pain and muscle tension as well as promote a stronger core.

Eating a balanced diet will help you consume the vitamins needed for optimal health. However, sometimes we may need a little supplementation.

If your diet is missing essential nutrients, consuming a supplement will help fill in the gaps. For me, I tend to lack B12 due to my mainly plant-based diet. To supplement this vitamin, I take a B12 supplement.

Avoid junk food

Let’s be honest, as delicious as junk food can be, we don’t always feel our best after consuming it. That’s because junk food is often fried, and has tons of calories, sugar, and sodium.

These can all cause you to feel sluggish and are not the healthiest to consume. Junk food also tends to be very calorie-dense which may hinder any fitness goals you are working towards. 

Detox teas

In reality, the body does a pretty good job of detoxifying the body from toxins.

However, some teas, like Green Tea, are rich in antioxidants and vitamins and can help the body’s detoxifying organs like the kidneys and liver.

Green tea is also great as an evening drink (get decaf) to help relax you and help with digestion.

Establish A Skincare routine

Adopting a morning and evening skincare routine is a surefire way to glow up. Your skin is the first thing people see, and if you want to feel good about putting your best face forward, a skincare routine is a must. 

While different skin types and conditions require different skincare ingredients, there are a few items that will help most people get healthy skin.

To begin, a gentle cleanser is great for washing away dirt, oil, and other impurities. 

Also, Vitamin C is a great antioxidant and helps brighten your skin. Another ingredient is hyaluronic acid. This helps with fine lines and wrinkles and helps bring moisture back to the skin. 

And finally, a good sunscreen. No amount of skincare can save sun-damaged skin. So you must be applying sunscreen with SPF 50 or more.

You will also want to make sure it’s broad spectrum meaning it helps block UVA and UVB rays. 

Wear Sunscreen

No amount of skincare can fix sun-damaged skin. You must apply sunscreen daily. Even if you work indoors or it’s cloudy outside, apply the sunscreen.

UV rays are so harmful to the skin and may take years for the damage to surface. Those sun spots you see today were created years ago.

Start now and make it part of your daily routine. Additionally, make every effort to shield yourself from the sun with hats, long sleeves, and sunglasses. 

Try Oil Pulling

Good oral hygiene is a must for a healthy mouth. Not only will regular dentist visits, flossing, and brushing help with the appearance of your smile, but it’s also essential for your health.

Another great way to promote a healthy mouth is by oil pulling.

According to the National Library of Medicine, Oil pulling is believed to improve gingival health and bleeding by reducing inflammation, relieving dry mouth, throat, and chapped lips, whitening teeth, reducing bad breath, and improving oral hygiene.

Oil pulling is best done in the morning on an empty stomach.

The recommended dose for adults is one tablespoon (about 10 mL) of sesame oil or coconut oil, sip it between the teeth for about 15-20 min, and then spit it out. 

Drink more water

Staying hydrated is the ultimate glow up tip. Drinking enough water is not only great for your overall health but also helps promote radiant skin.

Drinking plenty of water will help you stay alert, flush out toxins, lubricate the joints, help maintain blood pressure, and cushion the brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive tissue. 

According to The Mayo Clinic, The U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine determined that an adequate daily fluid intake is:

I love journaling about my dreams, hopes, my day, and also all things that I am grateful for in my life. Getting everything that is swirling in my head down on paper helps me clear my mind and envision the kind of life I want to live.

We all strive for better, but we also have to acknowledge what we have and what is going well in our lives. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself unhappy and exhausted from chasing the next best thing.

Exfoliating is a great way to remove dead skin cells. While the skin does a great job of daily exfoliating, sometimes those dead skin cells fail to fall off. Leaving behind dry, flaky patches or clogged pores.

To begin, you want to get a complete picture of where all your money goes. Take some time to write down EVERYTHING! This includes all the monthly app subscriptions, streaming subscriptions, and monthly spending at Starbucks.

The goal here is to get a view of all the “small” charges that you are paying for every month and get a total amount of expenses. When you add up all those charges, you’ll be able to pinpoint exactly where your money is going.

Create a Budget

Ah, yes, the B-word — budget. While many associate budgets with restrictions, they serve a crucial purpose when you want to be more mindful of your spending.

To begin, start by writing down your needs and wants.

Needs are your rent, car payments, insurance, food (groceries not takeout), and utilities. Wants are your streaming services, mani/pedis, Starbucks, and entertainment or travel expenses. 

If you find yourself spending more than your income, you will need to start cutting out some of the wants immediately. Money security is not only going to help you out in the long run, but it will also help elevate the stress that comes from working paycheck to paycheck.

Eliminate Debt

Debt is another four-letter word most rather not talk about, but it’s important. Just because you avoid it doesn’t mean it goes away. Take hold of your financial health by assessing your debts.

Write down all your credit card balances, car notes, student loans, and other loans, and even your mortgage.

If you are drowning in credit card debt, start by paying off the card with the most interest. Pay the minimum on all other cards, but start sending an extra payment (or whatever you can afford) each billing cycle. This will help pay down that debt.

Once you paid off the highest interest rate card, use the funds you were paying towards that card and apply it to the second highest interest rate yielding card.

By compounding payments, you can start minimizing your debt and alleviating that financial burden.

Start Investing In Your Future

If you are new to investing, start by asking your employer if they match your 401k. A 401k plan is a company-sponsored retirement account where employees can contribute a percentage of their income.

Employers often offer to match at least some of these contributions. This means your employer is essentially paying toward your future and retirement.

If your company does not offer this, you can open a Roth IRA at your bank and start saving that way.


A Roth IRA is an Individual Retirement Account to which you contribute after-tax dollars. While there are no current-year tax benefits, your contributions and earnings can grow tax-free, and you can withdraw them tax-free and penalty free after age 59½ and once the account has been open for five years.
