Poppy Barley Reviews

As a fashion blogger, I get many requests to try on and feature brands on the site. However, many brands fail to deliver products that stand up to their mission and quality claims.

When Poppy Barley reached out, I eagerly embraced the opportunity to test their “affordable luxury” claim, agreeing to review a selection of their items.

Poppy Barley Review

Poppy Barley was created in Canada by sisters Justine and Kendall Barber.

In 2012, the sisters set out to build a shoes and accessories brand focusing on sustainability while skipping the traditional markups of most luxury brands.

“We wanted to design boots, shoes and accessories for people like us—for people like you. People who care about comfort and style, but absolutely refuse to compromise their values of caring for the planet and people.”

PB focuses on versatile pieces you can wear on repeat and transcend both seasons and trends.

Poppy Barley is a Certified B Corp, meaning it must meet high standards on performance, accountability, and transparency when it comes to employee benefits, charitable giving, supply chain practices, and input materials.

PB exclusively works with factory partners who meet their standards for ethical production.

They re-certify their factories every two years to ensure they continue to meet ethical standards.

Poppy Barley first impressions

Upon first impressions, I found the footwear and accessories to be made of great quality. The leather was soft and smooth and the designs looked classic and timeless.

Their products seamlessly fit into any capsule wardrobe with their versatility and look.

The packaging was impressive. The purse’s dustbag is an unexpected addition.

The shoes came inside a durable dustbag which is perfect to ensure the products stay in pristine condition.

My initial inspection revealed that the products are crafted from durable materials. They exuded a luxurious look and feel, with no indication of being cheaply made.

The craftsmanship shines with immaculate precision, clearly crafted with care.

Poppy Barley Modern-Day Mary Jane Shoes Review

While searching for a pair of shoes to try out, I was instantly drawn to the Modern-Day Mary Jane shoes.

Ballet Flats and Mary Janes are having a major moment for spring and it was a pair that I did not have in my wardrobe.

The company crafts the Mary Janes from micro-pebbled leather uppers and lines them with a soft, anti-blister suede upper lining.

The memory foam insoles offer all-day comfort and the adjustable straps make them easy to slip on and off.

I liked how soft the leather was. I found the shoes to be extremely comfortable, especially if worn without any socks.

The fit was true to size. Modern-day Mary Jane sizes are 5-12 in medium and wide width.

Poppy Barley Medium Day to Night Bag Review

The Poppy Barley bag was another item that instantly grabbed my attention. The classic mid-size crossbody was exactly what I had been searching for.

I loved the Biscotti Pebble for its versatility. The interior has 2 main compartments with 1 large zipper pocket and 1 smaller zipper on the back of the purse.

There is also a dedicated phone pocket in the back of the purses which I find to be very convenient. It has a hidden magnetic snap closure in the back and the front closure for easy access.

You will also find PB-branded hardware on the front flap. Unfortunately, the hardware got all scratched up after the first couple of uses.

You can use an adjustable, removable strap that allows you to wear it on the shoulder or as a crossbody.

Poppy Barley The Polished Belt Review

I chose to try out The Polished belt because it came in the same colorway as the shoes — Oatmeal Micro Pebble.

The belt features an outer layer crafted from micro-pebbled leather, with a smooth leather lining.

There is also a small, rounded gold metal buckle that is timeless and makes for a great workwear capsule wardrobe piece.

The belt is available from 26″ to 46″. I chose the 34″ belt and it fit great on my size 6 frame.

The belt will have a very understated look. Its thinner design makes it a great versatile piece that can complement many different outfits.

Is Poppy Barley Attainable Luxury?

According to Poppy Barley, their ability to provide fair pricing on quality products is a direct result of skipping traditional luxury markups.

Many luxury brands significantly markup their products solely on logo significance. They know the brand-conscious consumer is willing to pay big bucks to wear a certain logo.

PB also has less overhead with minimal brick-and-mortar retail locations in Canada.

Poppy Barley’s focus on providing the same high-quality craftsmanship and products minus the logo and retail markups, classifies them as attainable luxury.
